Question: Can I Start a Beauty Blog Even If I Don’t Have a Name Yet?
A lot of people think that before you start your blog, you already need a name. While this is true to some extent, one of the reasons why we love Blue Host as a hosting provider is because they allow you to start your beauty blog even if you haven’t decided on a name yet.
When signing up, all you need to do is hover your mouse as if you were going to leave the screen and this pop up will appear. Then you can come up with a name later once you have a better idea of what your blog is about!

Coming up with a beauty blog name is an important part of launching a blog. You want to have a name that accurately describes what your blog is about, while letting your unique personality shine through.
Here are 5 steps to come up with the perfect beauty blog name to make your content shine.
While reading this article, when you start to brainstorm names of your own, be sure to plug them into this handy widget below to see if they’re available.
If a domain name isn’t available, don’t fret. Just keep trying new combinations until you have something that you love:

Step #1: Build a Word Bank of Words Related to Your Beauty Blog
First thing’s first… it’s time to decide what you want to blog about.
Narrowing down on a super specific topic (aka niche) will not only help you name your blog, but allow your content to stand out in a sea of thousands of other beauty blogs.
If you need some help, check out this article that walks you through how to choose a profitable blogging niche.
After you figure out what topic your blog is going to focus on, start to come up with some words related to your niche.
Here are some common beauty blog niches and examples of related words:
- Makeup Beauty Blog Words: blush, eyeshadow, mascara, face, lipstick, cosmetics, gloss
- Nail Beauty Blog Words: polish, shape, cuticles, manicure, pedicure, file, french tips, acrylic
- Hair Beauty Blog Words: length, curls, straight, brunette, blonde, waves, pixie, cut, grow
- Skin Care Beauty Blog Words: glowy, pimple, exfoliate, pores, wash, scrub, wrinkles
- Natural Beauty Blog Words: organic, sustainable, vegan, real, unrefined, raw, pure
Choosing a name with words related to your niche is super helpful when it comes to roping in readers. If a reader is looking for a beauty blog full of tutorials and you have the word tutorials in your blog name, they’ll know that you have what they’re searching for.
Including specific keywords also goes a long way in a blog name because it signals to search engines what your blog is about.
When you use specific keywords in your blog name, search engines are able to easily understand what your blog is about which increases your chances of your content getting ranked higher for relevant keywords.
As you brainstorm words, don’t be afraid to jot down anything that comes to mind! The point of this step is to begin building a giant bank of words so that you have plenty to work with when it’s time to decide on a name.
Step #2: Mix and Match Words
Once you have a solid list of words related to your niche, it’s time to start mixing and matching them to find a beauty blog name that rocks.
But before you start to play around with words, you can expand your list even further by using a thesaurus. A thesaurus is an incredibly handy tool when it comes to naming a blog as it gives more interesting word choices for generic terms.
Take the general word “hairstyle” for example. When you plug it into thesaurus, you get even more compelling word choices like “braid”, “hairdo”, “ponytail”, “afro”, “bob”, “blow dry”, and beyond.
Continue to do this with the words you brainstormed before, and add them to your list.
Eventually, you’ll wind up with a huge amount of words to play around with, giving you way more options when it comes to naming your beauty blog.
Mixing and Matching Techniques
When you mix and match words, you can use different techniques to come up with catchy combinations.
For starters, you can try out combinations of unrelated words like Straight Waves or Blunt Gloss. This creates a name far more interesting than Curly Waves or Shiny Gloss because it uses opposites to create a cool spin.
Another technique to try out is alliteration. Choose words that all start with the same letter or sound to create your blog name.
Alliteration is a really common way to create a captivating name, and you’ll see that lots of beauty bloggers have already used this technique.
Just take Beauty Banter, The Skincare Savoir and Politics of Pretty for example. All of these names roll off the tongue because of alliteration, creating a fun flow and an easy-to-remember beauty blog name.
Finally, you can also try out catchphrases or plays on words to make a beauty blog name that will stick with people. When utilized well, this technique can really make a beauty blog name shine.
A couple of my favorite examples of playing with words are the blog names She’s in the Glow and Maskcara. She’s in the Glow works well because it’s a play on a common phrase that many people know (she’s in the know), and Maskcara is equally witty as it creates a play on words with mascara (the blogger’s name is Cara).
Step #3: Make It Unique and Catchy
More than anything, you want to have a blog name that’s going to stand out. It’s hard to do this when your beauty blog name is pretty much the same as all the other beauty blogs online.
This is why it’s so important to choose a name that’s unique and catchy so that it will stick out in people’s minds.
Beauty blog names like Dreaming in Blush, The Anna Edit, Into the Gloss and Beauty is Boring are all special and uncommon. Only one of these names actually uses the word beauty and they put a fun spin on it.
Instead of settling for something boring, don’t be afraid to be bold and funky with your word choices. Who knows, your beauty blog name could be waiting where you least expect it!
Beyond this, you must be sure that your beauty blog name reflects your personality and style. The last thing you want is to have a boring blog name… this will lead people to think your blog is boring.
Show off your personal style, include fun adjectives, and let your charm shine through. This is the key to picking a beauty blog name that will stick with you for years to come.
Step #4: Choose a Beauty Blog Name That’s Easy to Spell and Remember
If you want people to be able to find your blog online, it’s crucial to choose a name that’s easy to spell and remember.
When picking words for your beauty blog name, stick with words that are simple, as well as easy to say and spell. This makes your blog name way more memorable than it would be with long, technical jargon.
It also helps if you can keep the blog name to 2 to 4 words.
For example, beauty blog names like The Sunday Girl, Beauty Geeks, and Pretty Connected all use clear words that are easy to spell and remember, and don’t exceed three words.
One way to see if your blog name is simple enough is to try out the Mom Test.
The Mom Test is when you call your mom and tell her your blog name. If she says “Huh? What was that? Can you spell that for me?”, your beauty blog name probably isn’t simple enough.
When people can remember your blog name, they’re that much more inclined to return to it over and over again. Plus, a simple name stands out in people’s minds much better than something that’s complicated.
Step #5: Consider If Your Beauty Blog Name Will Grow With You
The last step is to ensure that your beauty blog name will grow with you. This means you should prevent picking a name that puts yourself in a box!
Stay away from descriptive words that may change with time like “single” or “broke”, because who knows? One day you could be married or wealthy, thus making your beauty blog name irrelevant.
These “boxing” words can also be a turnoff for brands that may want to work with you. For instance, it’s unlikely that a luxury makeup brand would want to work with a blog with “broke” in the name.
To avoid this, try to pick words that are flexible, general to your niche, and that will always hold true.
Should You Use a Beauty Blog Name Generator?
If you’re feeling a bit of a creative block while trying to name your blog, consider using a beauty blog name generator!
These online tools allow you to plug in a few keywords and, in return, spits out tons of relevant (and available) domain names. While the suggestions aren’t perfect, they do give you a good starting point to help you get your creative juices flowing.
We actually took the time to create our own blog name generator to make the process that much easier.
Even if you don’t end up using a name provided, blog name generators are still a really valuable resource for seeking inspiration, getting the gears turning, and showing you what’s available.

Register Your Beauty Blog Name Now!
So you’ve come up with the ideal beauty blog name… now what? Well, it’s important to check that it hasn’t already been registered before getting your heart set on it.
You can check the domain availability here:

Once you have a name that’s available, you should go ahead and register it to make sure that no one else can nab it.
Domains typically cost around $10 a year to purchase, but in addition to a domain, you’ll need hosting to get your beauty blog live online.
While you can start a blog for free, if you want to make money, you’ll need a self-hosted blog. This means that you fully own your blog and anything on it.
If you don’t purchase hosting, you’ll have to use a free blogging platform that will include their name in your domain name (e.g. www.xyz123.wordpress.com) and face tons of restrictions when it comes to monetization and content ownership.
Just remember… self-hosted is the way to go!
We love to recommend Bluehost for hosting because they’re the most affordable and trusted hosting network. On top of that, they also provide a free domain name for a year which is included in your hosting purchase… Win!
Pssst, you can even use our discount code to take 63% off hosting. That means that with Bluehost, you can start a blog for less than a cup of coffee each month!

After getting your blog name registered, you may be wondering what the next step is for getting your blog live.
